Wed, Dec 4, 8:00 pm
One of the most popular of all works in the symphonic repertoire, Carl Orff’s powerful Carmina Burana is an absolute tour de force with large choir, full symphony orchestra, extensive percussion, two pianos, and three soloists. On December 4th, the combined forces of the UConn Symphony Orchestra, the UConn Concert Choir, the UConn Festival Chorus, and the Edwin O. Smith High School Chamber Singers. Also featured will be three UConn Opera alumni – tenor Spencer Hamlin, who is currently featured in Tosca at The Met, Charles H. Eaton, baritone, currently with the Minnesota Opera, and Sarah Callinan, a frequent soloist for opera and orchestral work throughout the U.S., who will sing under the direction of UConn’s newly appointed Orchestra Director Dr. Paul McShee. This music is some of the most heard classical music in movie soundtracks and commercials and will entertain and enthrall the audience with the colorful text that present a varied view of medieval life, including religious verses, social satires, and bawdy drinking songs. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear nearly 200 musicians bring Orff’s masterwork to life!
